For nearly four decades Good Friends Charlotte has held steadfast to its humble yet powerful mission - help fill in the gaps for working families and individuals when the unexpected occurs, just like a good friend.
For many of our clients, every dollar is stretched thin just covering the basics of daily life. A single unexpected 'bump in the road' can leave families and individuals vulnerable and without the resources they need to stay afloat. That's where Good Friends Charlotte comes in to help. Our small grants make a profound difference during a challenging time. It's not a loan, it's a one-time helping hand from a good friend.

Addressing Safe Shelter
When a family faces eviction without a place to call home, Good Friends steps in...not just with resources, but with the support and compassion of a true friend. We collaborate with organizations like Safe Alliance, Duke Energy, Roof Above and Piedmont Natural Gas to ensure that no one in our community has to face these challenges alone.
Food Security
For too many, the uncertainty of where the next meal will come from is a harsh reality. Through our partnerships with organizations like Nourish Up and the Charlotte Rescue Mission, we provide nutritious meals and snacks. We ensure that no one in our community goes hungry. It’s more than just food – it’s a simple way to help our neighbors so they can feed their families and themselves.
Youth and Infant Safety
The challenges children face in our community are staggering. From the struggle to access basic infant care to the technology needed for learning, the obstacles are real and overwhelming. Homelessness and hardship only add to the burden. Through collaborations with local schools, hospitals and community partners, Good Friends provides car seats, educational supplies for children with special needs, technology resources for teens to promote learning and access jobs, plus so much more.
A recent Good Friends Charlotte client was recommended by the Public Health department. The family had been carefully planning for the birth of their child but learned at week 28 that they would have twins! After birth and a prolonged stay in the intensive care unit, the infants were discharged. Good Friends gave this family a second car seat and infant sleeper to head safely home.
Good Friends covered the past due Duke Energy bill for a client and cancer patient who got behind after 14 months of treatment. The funds required for cancer treatments & medications, plus the need to rent in-home medical equipment was an overwhelming financial burden for the family. Good Friends' assistance ensured the patient has operable home care equipment, which requires electricity. Good Friends also connected the client & her family to cancer support systems for both the patient & caretaker, as well as a utility support program.
"In a world where you can be anything, be kind."
At Good Friends Charlotte, kindness is at the heart of everything we do. Every act of service, every gesture of care, is rooted in the belief that we are all better when we lift each other up. Thank you for being a part of this journey to help friends and neighbors in the Charlotte community.
